Table Talks

From improving speaking and listening skills to building self-esteem and rounded knowledge of a specific subject or topic, discussion remains an important aspect in day to day dealings. Healthy discussions are significant in mastering skills of obvious intrinsic value, developing the confidence to speak in public, constructing logical arguments; and most importantly, learning to hear others’ arguments and responding to them with accuracy.

Beaconhouse Metropolitan Campus-Girls hosted a round of “Table Talks” for students of Grade 9.  The topic of discussion was, “Preserving Our Past to Secure Our Future”. The main aim was to lay the foundations of the significance of positive discussions among each other so that students are equipped with the skills and confidence needed to understand and respect free speech from a young age.

Team members from BMC- Girls Branch and BMC- Boys Branch displayed their reasoning skills where they were fully engaged in the topic. They shared valuable points on the importance of history and what parts of the past can be preserved for a better future. They were both firm and flexible in their ideas, communicating clearly and thinking and analyzing promptly and critically.

The talks enlightened team members as well as the audience on the art to talk persuasively, to disagree without offending, to be assertive without being aggressive, and to engage with each other in a positive way.

Such talks help students bring out their maximum potential. Their latent talents and creativity is successfully expressed through their words. Keeping in view the success of these talks, further rounds on different topics are in the pipeline in near future.
