“We need to give each other the space to grow, to be ourselves, to exercise our diversity. We need to give each other space so that we may both give and receive such beautiful things as ideas, openness, dignity, joy, healing, and inclusion.” Max de Pree
“Unity, Pride and Belonging” were the three words that came to everyone’s mind at the Open Day of Beaconhouse Metropolitan Campus – Girls. The day was dedicated to honour Pakistan’s cultural diversity and also to celebrate women empowerment.
Our country is a colorful canvas of people from different ethnicities. Role plays related to respecting differences were performed on stage. Furthermore, beautifully set up stalls depicted the traditional cuisines, dresses, music, handicrafts and landmarks of each province. The stalls and role plays taught students that differences are not what divide us; rather these differences should be celebrated as something that unites us as a proud and strong nation.
Beaconhouse Metropolitan Campus is proud of prioritizing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. We believe that everyone must be recognized and appreciated for their talents, be provided with opportunities to get involved, and have their perspectives valued and heard. It was a pleasure to have with us students of Sedum School and Rehabilitation Centre for Special Children and from Child Development Centre FRAHS, Rawalpindi who showcased their talents on stage.
The Open Day also celebrated women around the globe as well as women entrepreneurs. The aim was to give students a sense of pride of how Pakistani women are constantly breaking stereotypes and are becoming icons in their respective fields. As quoted by Lt. General Nigar Johar, “The glass ceiling is pretty high but Pakistani women are getting there, slowly but surely.”
The chief guest of the day Ms Seemabia Tahir- Member Punjab Assembly appreciated the efforts of students and teachers. She laid stress on the significance of hard work, persistence, consistency and motivation to learn new things.
Students were able to view Pakistan and its people through an inclusive and diverse lens. They recognized the significance of a harmonious society and learnt how to see more, appreciate more, and understand more. Such understanding paves the way to better problem-solving, more empathy and compassion and deepened learning. This would help in building students’ strength of character, pride and confidence as an individual and as a Pakistani.
