Activities about cultural diversity teaches young children to respect and celebrate the differences from all around the world. Learning about different cultural aspects offers new experiences for children. It also helps them realize that we’re all humans, despite the differences in how we look or dress, or what we eat or celebrate.
BSTRP got filled with the colours of different cultures as the students entered the premises in the traditional attires of different nations. Be it the Spanish performance, Turkish Sufi Dance, Japanese Parasol Dance Display, Scottish Tartan Day Parade or Pallbearers African performance, all were showcasing the great efforts of the students involved in the preparation of it.The room decors were so perfectly suited to the theme that one felt like being a part of that country for the moment.
Grade 1 depicted the “Spanish Culture” in a captivating way.They decorated their pavilion with PiƱatas, Day of the Dead Crafts on stones, Spanish fans, Islamic Spain and Monarchs of Spain. Some parents also contributed by making Spanish food for the pavilion. Students prepared Spanish dance, songs and participated in traditional bull fighting. Young learners also shared the historical and geographical value of Spain with the visitors of the pavilion.
Students of Grade 2 presented the culture of Turkey. Classrooms were decorated with Turkish mosaic, art and craft, jewellery etc.The young whirling dervishes amazed the audience with their great performance on mystical Sufi music and the group of girls who were dressed up in beautiful Turkish attire showed the cultural dance.Students shared the information about Turkish festivals ,cuisine and sports.Few students really inspired the visitors by greeting them using courtesy words in Turkish language. A football match was also played between Turk teams as its a famous sport in Turkey.
The Japanese culture is rich in ceremonies and traditions that revere the family. Because Japan is an island nation, it has been able to keep the influence of other civilizations at bay for generations.This allowed the lovely Land of the Rising Sun to develop its own culture and heritage.
The students of Grade 3 beautifully represented this rich culture through its arts, games, music, food and much more. Students had very elegantly carried the Japanese attire. It was a great learning experience that was thoroughly enjoyed by the students and their parents.
Students of Grade 4 showcased their respect for the astounding land of mesmerizing castles i.e. Scotland.They highlighted its breathtaking highlands, yummilicious cuisine, jaw dropping highland dances, Tartan Day parade, local games and Thistle Flower art in an amusing way. They also shared the ‘Tale of Scotland’s Loch Ness Monster’ , a part of Scottish folklore. The fascinating ambiance was a feast for the eyes.
Students of Grade 5 depicted a truly fascinating culture of Africa in the learning festival. They prepared African cuisine, tribal masks, painted pottery in traditional colours and dressed up in cultural attire to show the rich culture of African people.
African Safari arena set up by the students and teachers was another attraction, where the animals of savanna and their habitat was not only created using different materials but documentary and presentation was also shown using multimedia. Everyone celebrated the culture of Africa through coffin dance and songs.The day definitely was made memorable for the kids before the Spring Break!
