On May 11th, 2022 BSS Cantt Campus Multan hosted yet another community-wide student-oriented mega event, Wellness Fair. The purpose behind the fair was to develop awareness for a healthy body,mind and environment .
There were experts sharing information, valuable presentations showcased by teachers and students, hands on activities and many more.
Thus,a plethora of activities were introduced that support a healthier lifestyle.
Why is this event important?
This fair was important because of its true essence that is overall wellbeing. We believe that the Wellness Fair helps students feel comfortable talking about mental health, learning about self-care, and utilising campus and community resources. This event was open for both BSS and non-BSS parents and students.
What activities were students involved at the Wellness Fair?
Yoga Session
A number of studies have shown that yoga may help reduce stress and anxiety. Yoga can enhance your mood and overall sense of well-being. Yoga might also help you manage your symptoms of depression and anxiety that are due to difficult situations. A well-qualified yoga instructor, Ms Seema Mirza aided students and parents through various activities in this session. It was concluded with an interactive session between the instructor and the students in which the queries were addressed satisfactorily. The session was very refreshing, reviving and relaxing.
Stamina Testing Challenges
Physical fitness is simply the body’s ability to complete physical work. Exciting activities were introduced to keep everyone engrossed. These included one leg balance challenge, skipping rope challenge, spot high knee challenge; push up challenge, figure of 8 challenge, jumping jack, breathing challenge and kicks speed challenge. These types of tests can be quite helpful in developing a complete understanding of current health.
Appropriate Body Posture
Good posture is about more than standing up straight so you can look your best. It is an important part of your long-term health. Making sure that you hold your body the right way, whether you are moving or still, can prevent pain, injuries, and other health problems. Ms Summaya Fareed, physiotherapist by profession helped parents and students in correcting and improving body posture through discussing treatment techniques that lead to many positive health outcomes.
Healthy Snacks Making Contest
Wellness Fair presented an exciting health snack making competition to promote healthy eating. This platform was open for both parents and students. The importance of a balanced diet was reiterated.
The dishes prepared by students and parents were awarded with prizes by well-known Chef Firdous Khan and Zahra Shah.The title of “BCCM Master Chef ” was also awarded.
Presentations on Healthy Habits and Food Portions
Our globally aware beaconites developed an understanding of healthy lifestyle by sharing information regarding needs of different nutrients to stay healthy by taking in a variety of foods from each of the main food groups using the Food Pyramid which is designed to make healthy eating easier and explained the importance of adopting healthy habits.
Mind Games
Healthy use of technology was incorporated and students were given a platform to play healthy games offline on gadgets provided which covered a wide variety of subjects, some of which helped them learn a lot about keeping the body healthy.It helped children improve their cognitive skills like attention, concentration, focus, and memory.
Organic Beauty and Health Tips
Wellness Fair offered a variety of health and beauty tips to enhance and nourish the looks of students and parents who can step out with greater confidence. Students presented their power point presentation to share timeless, proven beauty secrets that are mostly made from natural organic products. This was followed by a fruitful session by a beautician, Ms Saima Malik who gave tips for radiant face, glowing skin and a healthy body for teen-agers.
Session on Hygiene for Females Only
A team of speakers was invited from MMDC to talk about feminine hygiene and safety measures. Health experts urged the participants to follow the principles of hygiene and take special care of hygiene during menstruation.Dr. Ramsha Jamshed , Ifra Mehmood and Mahnoor Zia, Aasil Paracha clarified the myths and taboos relating to menstrual health.A question and answer session was conducted by Dr. Romaisa Saif in the end.
Session on Mental Health
Sarah Mahmood , Lecturer & Clinical Psychologist in the Department of Applied Psychology in BZU Multan helped to increase awareness about mental health at work. The session was designed to help students understand the basic concept of mental health and well-being; strengthen their coping abilities to counter stress and encourage them to seek help, guidance and support.Experts talked about tips on mental health first aid, prevention strategies and how can we help them feel connected to school/family- and prevent a range of negative experiences like frustration, aggression, demotivation, use and violence etc.
Obesity
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared obesity as an epidemic of the XXI century after reaching global proportions. Keeping that in mind, BCCM included this platform so our globally aware Beaconites could enlighten the audience with their research based presentations on obesity. Areas like obesity being hereditary and its economic consequences to our society were the highlights of the session.
Discussions on encouraging children to try a variety of different fruits, vegetables, and proteins from an early age were a part of the session. As they grow older, they may be more likely to incorporate these healthy foods into their own diet.
Nurture the Nature – Indoor Plant Stall
Where the quality of life goes down for the environment, the quality of life goes down for humans. – George Holland. An indoor plant stall was arranged by the Life Skills Club. As we are working for the environment, our students are conscious about the increase in global warming and have already been involved in different activities to reduce desertification and global warming, therefore by arranging plant stalls a message was conveyed to the parents and visitors that we must take vital steps to reduce global warming. Students and parents bought indoor plants to ensure a healthy life. Some students bought indoor plants for their classrooms as well.
A session was conducted about a Kitchen garden project that started two years ago with the motto Nurture the Nature. Students presented this journey highlighting the vegetable garden, mango trees plantation and plantation in DHA, Askari II. They focused on the importance of preserving the environment and conservation of resources.
Qawali Night
The entire event was concluded by a mystical sufi night.It was a soulful event during which the renowned Mian Faheem Qawal and his band performed splendid qawalis.
