“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.”- Fredrick Douglass
Nurturing a love for reading begins with providing reasons for reading and getting students excited about books. BCCM arranged a trip to Public Library Bagh Lange Khan, Multan on 30th March 2022. Grade IX Cambridge and VIII Pre metric were accompanied by Ms. Shireen Shafqat, the Headmistress In charge of Beaconhouse Cantt Campus Multan. Such a field trip is one of the best tools that we can use to provide every student with real-world experiences.
Preserving Cultural Heritage
As gateways to knowledge and culture, libraries play a fundamental role in society. The resources and services they offer create opportunities for learning and help shape the new ideas that are central to a creative and innovative society. They also help ensure an authentic record of knowledge created and accumulated by past generations.
The Public Library Bagh Lange Khan is a cultural heritage of Multan. During the Mughal reign of Emperor Shah Jahan, Prince Murad Bakhsh constructed the premises of the garden along with Baradari which became the Multan Book Society in the year 1860. Finally, the Government upgraded its rank to a Public library in the year 1886.
Libraries such as Public Library Bagh Lange Khan are rich repositories of historically and culturally significant collections, many of which are not available anywhere else in the world. Students explored books, periodicals, newspapers and manuscripts. They were excited to see the card catalogs — drawers upon drawers of paper cards with information about books.
The trip concluded with students visiting McDonald’s and enjoying a hearty meal with their peers.
